What
is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional
Chinese Medicine has its origins in China nearly 5000 years ago. There
are five branches to the Medicine: Herbology, Acupuncture, Tui Na, QiGong/Tai
Chi and Food Therapy. In the United States Acupuncture is the most widely
practiced of the three branches. The principles of this medicine are
based upon the restoration of an individual's physical, emotional and
spiritual balance.
Balance= when you have that calm peaceful feeling that you know
you are healthy. You just feel good.
What
is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture
is a complete medical system that can assess, treat, and prevent illness.
It is a safe, effective and virtually painless means to treat various
conditions. Sterilized acupuncture needles are strategically placed
on the body. The quick and easy insertion stimulates the body's energy,
called Qi (pronounce chee). At times the Qi of the body becomes blocked
due to stress, life style and/or illness. Acupuncture unblocks these
obstructions while also strengthening the body. With the smooth flow
of energy the body can now return to its natural balance.
What
is Acupressure?
Acupressure
is literally acupuncture without needles. The hand is used to make pressure
on all the same points as acupuncture. This is primarily used for individuals
who are more sensitive to needles. It is just as effective as acupuncture
but may require additional time to treat to get desired results.
What
is Tui Na?
Tui Na translates
to "push-grasp". It is a massage technique to move Qi through
the body. Primarily, it is used to relieve structural discomforts, however,
it also can be used to treat internal disorders.
What
is Herbal Therapy Education?
Many people
today take a variety of vitamins and herbal supplements without true
understanding of their medicinal qualities. We will review what you
are taking while also educating you as to what supplements and food
products would best support your well being.
What
is Food Therapy Education?
According
to the traditional teachings of Chinese Medicine, all foods affect the
body medicinally. The can affect our every day well being. An extensive
review of your daily food habits is part of the initial consultation.
This is not nutritional counseling. What is learned is an ancient concept
regarding the affect of foods on the body. Example: Some menopausal
women can exacerbate their hot flashes by eating spicy foods. Therefore,
even though you may be eating all the “right” foods, it
may be those foods that are contributing to you just not feeling good.
